Give us a list from the Church. Does it include frequent spousal refusal of the marital debt? Does it include being widowed and suddenly without a marital sexual partner? Are these acceptable "social factors?" If nobody from tje Church can be specific about this, then this statement should be removed from the catechism to avoid confusing the faithful.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26883902.post-57826329270246511002021-01-20T08:11:02.507-05:002021-01-20T08:11:02.507-05:00Do you agree?Do you agree?dunedude8https://www.blogger.com/profile/12253780910738662168noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26883902.post-88829450776553032842021-01-16T19:11:36.993-05:002021-01-16T19:11:36.993-05:00What do you think St. Paul might have been referri...What do you think St. Paul might have been referring to when he talked about his struggle with sin, habitual behavior.and his discouragement in his letter to the Romans, chapter 7, verses 14 through 25? Seems to me that it fits a habit of masturbation perfectly. Masturbation is pretty much endemic especially with males. Calling this practice "grave" seems an overreaction to me. For the first six or so centuries of the Church, no one said masturbation was seriously sinful. Certainly Jesus never said it and wouldn't you think he would have if it was all that serious? Even if you concede that it is morally grave, that only meets one of the three necessary requirements for mortal sin. Bottom line? I think that if masturbation is really a potential mortal sin, it might be objectively but very very seldom subjectively. I think this position is very much in harmony with the catechism 2352. By the way, it is something I would confess just to keep myself honest, to grow in chastity and because in my heart I would find it to be a venial sin. In and of itself, it would however never bar me from receiving the Eucharist as one of the myriad of benefits in receiving the Eucharist is forgiveness of venial sin.
