Contemplation

Check out the Merton quote that Don has posted today. It goes a long way toward helping us realize that once we have given up greed and lust as worldly passions, we have only begun to have any spirituality. It's very easy to simply translate these passions into our "spiritual" life and chase after "holiness," "spirituality," "contemplation," and "advancement in prayer" as if they were things to own. Check out the post here.

  1. Thank you for directing me to Don's posting. I really needed to hear that...today especially...

    God bless!

  2. Thanks for the link. Merton was very perceptive and knew that it's only natural to chase after these sorts of things because they feed our egos. Sitting quietly before the Lord is difficult. We have a "do something" mentality. Sitting quietly without expectation is a radical departure for most of us.

Faithful, or even just thoughtful criticisms are always welcome. Uninformed rudeness to other posters or to the Lord and His Church is not.

I also reserve the right to reject comments promoting things like private revelations and fringe points of view, if it seems to me like they are being presented in a misleading way.

If you raise a disagreement with something I say but I do not respond, please do not feel slighted or insulted, or imagine that this automatically means I disagree or agree with you. It's just that I don't find the comment box to be a constructive medium for certain forms of debate.
