Census Fears
Today I learn that the 2010 United States Census will be using our church hall for employment applications and interviews. This is somewhat troublesome to me, because God's low opinion of census-taking is very clear in the Scripture. See 2 Samuel 24. Also, I would caution anyone applying to work for the census, lest someone eat his liver "with fava beans and a nice Chianti."

Faithful, or even just thoughtful criticisms are always welcome. Uninformed rudeness to other posters or to the Lord and His Church is not.
I also reserve the right to reject comments promoting things like private revelations and fringe points of view, if it seems to me like they are being presented in a misleading way.
If you raise a disagreement with something I say but I do not respond, please do not feel slighted or insulted, or imagine that this automatically means I disagree or agree with you. It's just that I don't find the comment box to be a constructive medium for certain forms of debate.
Make certain a local hotel keeps at least one room vacant. Just in case.
ReplyDeleteWhile I understand the biblical hooplah about the census, I also think we need to put things into perspective. In the OT story where God punishes the census by killing off thousands of people afterwards, the Israelites were living in a theocracy, where religion and government were inseparable. But now, God has told us clearly to give to Caesar what is Caesar's, including our civil status information.
ReplyDeletePlus, were it not for the Roman census, nativity scenes would look a lot duller. That clinches it in my book.
I'll remember to tell D to stay away from any houses where "Lechter" is listed as an occupant.
ReplyDeleteHi QR. I think he was joking. :-)
