One day last Easter season an Anglican religious brother stopped by the parish office looking for some holy water from the Easter Vigil. Why he wanted our holy water, being an Anglican, I wasn't sure, but I gave him some that I had saved for my personal use.
In thanksgiving he gave me an object that he called an Anglican rosary. It's one of those nylon cord things, small and rugged, designed to be used rather than admired. There's only one knot where the three should be near the cross, and only seven in each "decade."
I don't know if it's blessed, though I doubt it.
Anyway, I was cleaning up some junk in my office and came across it again. I don't know how to use it, and doubt I would if I did.

Perhaps one of your readers will explain how to use it... I've never heard of an Anglican Rosary...

Father Charles, you are indeed a most gracious person. It's difficult to say "no" to certain gifts that may mean a lot to the giver, yet not so much to the recipient. It's very thoughtful of you to reach out to anyone who may wish to have this, as opposed to discretely throwing it into the trash can (err...rubbish bin, since it IS Anglican).
ReplyDeleteI sincerely can't wrap my mind around Anglican "religious" or high-Anglicans in general. To me, it's the religious equivalent of being a member of the flat earth society.

ReplyDeleteAt a time when I was having difficulty focusing on prayer, I was guided to the Anglican rosary. These beads allowed me to focus on my prayer. By the repetition my mind doesn't wander as much. I am able to stay centered where I am. For me it is a prayer tool. Just as The Holy Rosary allows me to reflect on the life of Christ as i pray it, these beads allow me to center my prayers where I am. I use it daily and I am grateful for being introduced to it. ReplyDeleteThere is also another site by the Anglican Franciscan Brothers-- http://www.franciscan.org.au/anglican-rosary/--in Australia that gives a good explanation of these prayer beads. For me it is simply a tool I use in prayer. Many people need a tactile means of prayer. I find them helpful to me.

Along those lines, Cathy, I find that I "connect" more with the Jesus Prayer and my chotki than I do the Rosary.
ReplyDeletePerhaps rather than thinking of them as "The Anglican Rosary": you could view them as a set of prayer beads for a chaplet of your design. They were after all given to you in a Christian spirit(and an an exchange for Easters Holy Water!); a set of prayers meditating simply on the graces of Gid might be appropriate.
ReplyDeleteBlessed by God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, blessed water is blessed water. Though I have a rosary i avidly use, I would gladly take yours if still available and pass it along to someone in need of one. Much rather that than throwing an aid to prayer away, that's squandering the Lord's gift, and it probably was blessed if the man who gave it you was a Brother. We do have a blessing for them after all in the Anglican church. Qualis, I ocassionaly feel the same about Catholics, but the fact that God has moved their hearts to that devotion stops me from calling them fools.
