A Kludge for Passiontide

"In the dioceses of the United States, crosses in the church may be covered from the conclusion of the Mass for the Saturday of the fourth week of Lent until the end of the Celebration of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday."

In this devout spirit, I veiled the crucifix in my room with my violet maniple.

  1. What is the tradition behind the practice? It is always interesting learning something new.

On a lighter note, that bottom picture is wonky.

  2. Oh, and by the way, "OFM FTW" is an outstanding blog title.

I think I've got you beat. I didn't have any purple fabric, so I used two (clean) bandanas that I wore while doing mission work in Appalachia to cover my statues and religious images.

I am slowly but surely turning into a crazy old church lady.

  5. I have always found it odd that the Church, and now, some of its members cover the crucifix during Passiontide, since it is on the passion and death of the Lord that we focus during this time. I never realized that you had a reactionary spirit.

  6. Why has my parish had it covered since the beginning of Lent???

Faithful, or even just thoughtful criticisms are always welcome. Uninformed rudeness to other posters or to the Lord and His Church is not.

I also reserve the right to reject comments promoting things like private revelations and fringe points of view, if it seems to me like they are being presented in a misleading way.

If you raise a disagreement with something I say but I do not respond, please do not feel slighted or insulted, or imagine that this automatically means I disagree or agree with you. It's just that I don't find the comment box to be a constructive medium for certain forms of debate.
